FIGURE WITH ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS AND FIGURES 200 BC - AD 200 Recuay Culture, Peru ceramic, slip painted in brown and beige The Recuay people were exceptional potters, were allies of the Moche, and shared the Moche traditions of fine, detailed slip painted ceramic design. Their high quality ceramics were made using hard, fine grained kaolin (a fine white clay). This charming vessel depicts a dwelling complete with figures, stairs, and a decorative design. Because of its fine quality of craftsmanship, it is an excellent example of the Recuay house vessel tradition. |
